Vontobel as a sustainable issuer

Vontobel achieved key milestones in terms of corporate responsibility and sustainability in 2018, being awarded Prime status by the international sustainability rating agency ISS-oekom for the first time. This means that Vontobel is among the top 6% worldwide in a peer group of 44 wealth and asset managers. ISS-oekom's rating system is among the most rigorous and gave Vontobel especially high scores for its range of sustainable investments, volume of assets under sustainable management, data and IT security, adherence with compliance regulations, and shareholder structure.

As a member of the UN Global Compact since 2017, Vontobel is committed to aligning its business activities and strategies with ten universally recognized principles covering human rights, working standards, environmental protection, and fighting corruption. The UN initiative Principles for Responsible Investment also awarded Vontobel an excellent rating in 2018 for its sustainable investment strategies, with six of the seven modules assessed beating the benchmark. This significantly above-average showing vindicates Vontobel's efforts to continually build up and enhance its sustainable investment expertise since the 1990s. Our assets under sustainable management grew further in 2018, reaching CHF 23.3 billion at the end of the year. This represents a year-on-year increase of almost 70%.

Vontobel offers sustainable investment solutions as an integral part of its product range, acting in a responsible and forward-looking manner. It is a founder member, for example, of the Swiss Climate Foundation, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2018. We took this as an opportunity to intensify our communication about the Foundation. We are convinced that sustainable development is a goal we can only achieve together with our partners.

To promote ecological sustainability, Vontobel has joined forces with the charitable foundation AfB social & green IT this year in a large-scale computer recycling project aimed at reducing our environmental footprint. We had to replace almost 2,000 desktop computers as part of preparations for the migration to Windows 10. We gave the old computers to the foundation, which has been reselling premium enterprise machines cheaply to retail customers and charities for more than ten years. ISO-certified technologies from the international data specialist Blancco were used to wipe the hard drives.
